Decorator's Icing

Ingredients

  • Chocolate
  • 1 lb powdered sugar (3 1/2 C unsifted)
  • 1 stick margarine (butter makes it too soft)
  • 1/2 C cocoa
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 T instant coffee powder or expresso powder, if desired - to taste
  • 1/3 C milk (approx - add slowly until spreading consistency)

  • White
  • 2 lb powdered sugar
  • 1 1/3 C Crisco solid
  • 1/2 C Carnation dry milk
  • 1 tsp salt dissolved in 1/4 C water (undissoved salt leaves craters in colored icing)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp almond
  • Food coloring or decorator's paste coloring as desired
  • addtional water - add slowly until spreading consistency reached

Preparation

Step 1

Mix all ingredients and beat 5 min. until creamy
Stores in refrigerator tightly sealed for several weeks; warm to room temperature and stir before using
