Ingredients
- 5 medium apples (1-1/2 lb),
- 1 (14 ounce) package Kraft caramels
- 2 tbsp water
- 5 popsicle sticks
Preparation
Step 1
Wash and dry apples thoroughly so that the caramel adheres to the apples.
Insert wooden popsicle stick into stem end of each apple. Cover large plate with waxed paper; grease paper with butter.
Cook caramels and water in large saucepan on medium-low heat until caramels are completely melted, stirring constantly.
Dip apples in caramel; spoon additional caramel over apples if necessary to evenly coat apples. Let excess caramel drip off. Scrape bottoms of apples; place on prepared plate. Refrigerate 1 hour. Remove from refrigerator 15 min. before serving; let stand at room temperature to soften slightly. Refrigerate leftovers.
Variations: Roll apples in nuts, toffee bits, or crushed Oreo cookies for fun variations. Kids can also decorate the apples with chocolate chips, mini M&M's and other candies. Drizzle dark chocolate or white chocolate over the apples for a decadent addition.
Tip: Having trouble unwrapping caramels? Place them in the freezer for 20 minutes, and plastic wrapping will easily peel off... If caramel hardens during dipping process, simply put it back in the microwave and heat for a few seconds.
