Blood Orange Juniper Granita

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon juniper berries
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups blood orange juice
  • 3 tablespoons gin

Preparation

Step 1

Crush juniper berries with a flat side of a large knife or mortar and pestle.

In small pot bring water, sugar and juniper berries to a boil and simmer until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and let juniper steep until sugar syrup is cool.

Strain syrup into blood orange juice and discard juniper berries. Stir gin into juice mixture and freeze in a shallow pan until slushy, about 1 hour.

Stir with a fork, breaking up lumps, and repeat freezing and stirring, until frozen, about 4 hours.
