MEATBALLS IN CREAMY MUSHROOM SAUCE

Ingredients

  • MEATBALLS:
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp worchestire sauce
  • grated rind of one orange
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • SAUCE:
  • 4 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp corn starch
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups frozen peas
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tsp worchestire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • juice of small orange

Preparation

Step 1

MEATBALLS:

Mix all meatball ingredient except butter. Shape into small balls. Fry in butter in pan for 5-7 minutes till well browned. Remove from pan - set aside.

SAUCE:

Fry mushrooms in butter. Remove from pan. In a bowl, dissolve cornstarch and a bit of milk. Add to fry pan with remaining milk and cook, stirring till thickened.

Add the remaining ingredients, meatballs and mushrooms.

Return to boil for 15 minutes in covered pan. Serve over noodles or mashed potatoes.
