Bread - Irish Soda Bread

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 box raisins
  • 1 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tbls butter

Preparation

Step 1

Sift together dry ingredients in the order listed

Add butter, add raisins, add buttermilkmilk then stir.

Flour your hands well and knead dough - periodically add flour to hands to avoid sticking

Shape dough into a ball and place in center of an iron fry pan (two rounds if using two smaller pans).

Pat buttermilk on top of bread round, cut an "X" in top of bread dough.

Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour.
