Ingredients
- 1 package (1/4 ounce) yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 egg
- 1 cup Daisy Brand Sour Cream
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons thyme divided use
- 1 teaspoon rosemary
- 1/2 teaspoon basil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 1/2 cups bread flour (may need up to 3 1/2 cups)
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Preparation
Step 1
Mix the yeast with warm water. Whisk the egg into the yeast after the yeast is dissolved. Heat the sour cream to lukewarm and add 1 tablespoon melted butter in a large bowl. Add the yeast mixture. Add the soda, salt, sugar and 1 teaspoon thyme, rosemary, basil, and garlic. Gradually add the flour. Mix well. Let rise until dough doubles (approximately 1 to 1 1/2 hours). Shape into 3 small or 2 large balls and let rise again. Flatten balls onto greased baking sheets. Brush the tops of each with melted butter and sprinkle with remaining 1 teaspoon of thyme to garnish and then sprinkle each top with cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
