English Bread Pudding

Ingredients

  • 16 slices day old, firm textured white bread (1 small loaf)
  • 1 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 package (8 ounces) mixed dried fruit, cut into small pieces.
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 medium apple, nuts
  • 1 medium apple, chopped
  • 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, melted
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Preparation

Step 1

1. Tear bread, with crusts, into 1 to 2 inch pieces; place in crock pot. Pour milk over bread; let soak 30 minutes. Stir in dried fruit, nuts and apple.
2. Combine remaining ingreadients in small bowl; pour over bread mixture. Stir well to blend. Cover; cook on low 3 1/2 to 4 hours or until skewer inserted into center of pudding comes out clean.

Note; Chopping dried fruits can be difficult. To make the job easier, cut fruit with kitchen scissors. Spray scissors (or your chef's knife) with nonsitck cooking spray before chopping to prevend sticking.
