Ingredients
- 12 hot dogs
- 1 package (12 breadsticks) refrigerated breadstick dough
- 3 tablespoons baking soda
- coarse sea salt
Preparation
Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Spray a baking sheet with non-stick cooking spray.
3. Bring a large pot of water to a boil over high heat. When boiling, drop in the hot dogs and boil for 3 - 4 minutes. Remove from water and let sit until cool enough to handle.
4. Separate the refrigerated breadsticks. Starting a one end of each hot dog, leaving about 1 inch of the dog exposed, wrap the hot dog in the breadstick dough in a spiral pattern down to the other end, leaving about 1 inch exposed at this end as well. Pinch the dough together a little with your fingers at each end to secure it.
5. Boil one cup of water and pour into a bowl large enough to fit one wrapped hot dog at a time. Add 3 tablespoons baking soda to the boiling water and stir well.
6. Dip each dough-wrapped hot dog in the water/soda mixture for 30 seconds, turning so that all sides are coated.
7. Place each dipped dog on the prepared baking sheet after dipping.
8. Sprinkle coarse salt over the tops of each pretzel dog.
9. Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown. This will take between 5 and 10 minutes depending on your oven. Watch them carefully after 5 minutes to make sure the dough does not burn.
10. When pretzel dogs are golden brown, remove them from the oven and serve while warm with your favorite hot dog condiments such as mustard and ketchup.
