Ingredients
- Baked on Topping:
- 2 cups cake flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 & 1/4 cups sugar
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 egg whites
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 cup chopped pecans
Preparation
Step 1
Bring all ingredients to room temp.
Heat oven to 350.
Sift, then measure flour.
Add baking powder, salt, sugar to flour & sift again in large bowl.
Add shortening, milk & vanilla & beat 2 minutes.
Add unbeaten eggs & beat 1 minute more.
Pour into greased 13x9 pan.
Topping:
Beat egg whites till stiff, but not dry.
Gradually add brown sugar & beat till well mixed.
Spread over top of cake batter & sprinkle with nuts.
Bake for 35 minutes.
