Carmelized Onions

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 red onions, sliced
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tsp salt

Preparation

Step 1

Heat the oil over medium high heat in a large heavy bottomed casserole.

Add in the onions and stir to coat, cooking for 2 to 3 minutes.

Add in the water, sugar, balsamic and season with salt.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 40-45 minutes adding water if necessary until the onions are cooked and syrupy.
