  • c milk

  • 7

    T sugar

  • 2

    T plus 2 t salt

  • c shortening

  • c molasses

  • 3

    c warm water

  • 4

    pkg yeast

  • 3

    c white flour

  • 3

    c rye flour

  • 6

    c wheat flour


Scald milk. Stir in sugar, salt, shortening and molasses. Cool to lukewarm. Put water in separate bowl. Add yeast. Stir until dissolved. Add to milk mixture. Add ½ mixture of flour. Beat until smooth and elastic. Stir in other flour. Turn out and knead. Place in greased bowl. Brush with shortening. Cover, and let rise until double. Punch down and turn out on lightly floured board. Shape into 4 loaves. Place in greased bread pans Let rise to top of pans. Bake at 375 for 30 minutes.
