Flour Tortillas

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups Flour
  • 2-1/2 tsps Baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup lard/vegetable shortening/butter
  • 2 Tbsps additional Lard etc.
  • 1 cup HOT water (just below boiling)

Preparation

Step 1

- stir dry ingredients together
- add spoonfulls of lard (use 1/2cup + 2Tbsps) and use a pastry cutter , Cut misture until it resembles coarse crumbs
- slowly pour in hot water, stirring to bring mixture together.
- lightly knead dough 30 to 40 times until becomes a ball and less sticky (you may have to add flour)

- cover and let sit for 1 hr

- roll into golf ball size balls and rest for 20 to 30 mins

- Heat skillet (med-high temp)

- roll out a ball very very thin (it will swell while cooking)

- cook each side for 20 to 30 secs. with slightly brown spots.
