Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 2 cups flour

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350.

In medium bowl cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg, molasses, baking soda, and spices. Blend in 1 ½ cups flour and add flour until batter is thick. On lightly floured surface divide dough into 4 parts. Shape into 12” long log. Place on greased cookie sheet.

Bake 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned on bottom. DO NOT OVERBAKE!


Sprinkle with granulated sugar and cut diagonally into bars. Cool pan of bars on racks. Store in airtight container. Makes about 4 dozen.
