Inside Out Apple Crisp
By Tara-3
Inside Out Crockpot Apple Crisp – Suitable for babies 7-8 months. Leave out nuts if serving to babies!
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup brown sugar – more or less or none, it’s up to you. I made this as a treat so I used 1/4 cup for my older kiddos
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped – optional – NOT for babies
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 4 Macintosh apples, cored
- 1 water – you could use 1 cup of apple juice if you really want a totally apple flavor but it does not need juice
- maple syrup to drizzle
Details
Preparation
Step 1
Turn a large crock-pot on to low heat
Whizz the brown sugar, oatmeal and cinnamon in a food processor.
Place the apples on a plate then fill the apples with the filling and (sprinkle on the nuts- not for babies) then drizzle maple syrup over the tops of the apples.
Put the apples carefully into the crockpot
You may dab with some butter if desired – I usually do this when I bake apples in the oven but I didn’t for this method.
Pour the apple juice or water into the crockpot but not over the apples, unless you want a more soggy type texture
Cover and cook 2 1/2 to 3 hours on low heat until the apples are soft and begin to collapse.
How to Eat
For babies: scoop out apple flesh and mash or puree, scoop out apple flesh and oatmeal and mash/puree then drizzle with yogurt
For big kids: Serve warm with oodles of frozen vanilla yogurt for a sweet dessert.
