Ingredients

    slices bacon, diced

  • 1

    cup chopped cabbage

  • 1/2

    cup chopped romaine

  • 1/2

    cup chopped celery

  • 1

    carrot, sliced

  • 1

    onion, sliced

  • 1

    16 oz can diced tomatoes

  • 1/4

    cup chopped parsley

  • 1/8

    tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2

    cup elbow macaroni

  • 1

    tsp oregano

  • 1/2

    ts basil

  • 3

    tsp salt

  • 1/4

    cup flour

  • 1

    16 oz can navy beans or garbanzo beans, drained

Directions

Cook bacon in large pot until brown. Stir in 5 cups water, cabbage, romaine, celery, carrot, onion, tomatoes, parsley & garlic. Simmer uncovered 40 minutes. Stir in macaroni, oregano, basil & salt. Dissolve flour in 1/2 cup cold water. Stir flour mixture into vegetable mixture. Heat to boil, stirring constantly. Cook & stir 10 minutes or until thickened & macaroni is cooked. Stir in beans. Cook 5 minutes. This is 1/2 recipe. If you don't have romaine, increase celery to 1 cup. To make a full recipe use a can each of navy beans & garbanzo beans.
