Split Pea Soup

Ingredients

  • 1 ham bone
  • 1 1/2 cups cubed ham
  • 3 quarts water
  • 2 cups split green peas (1 package)
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 1 pkg. carrots, diced

Preparation

Step 1

Combine all ingredients except ham in a large pan with cover. Bring to boil, then reduce heat so water simmer for 21/2 to 3 hours. Remove bone and cut away any meat that will come off, add to the soup with remainder 1 1/2 cups of ham.

Thicken soup with: 4 tbls. melted butter, stir in 6 tbls. flour and gradually add to soup stock until liquid. Then stir into soup.
