Ingredients

  • 1/2 c Butter softened
  • 1/2 c Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 c Molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 3 c Flour
  • 1 t Baking Soda
  • 1 t ground Ginger
  • 1/2 t Salt
  • 1/4 t ground Cinnamon
  • 1/8 t ground Cloves
  • 1 to 2 t cold Water

Preparation

Step 1

In mixing bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar. Beat in molasses and egg. Combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, salt, cinnamon and cloves. Add to the creamed mixture alternately with water. Mix well, cover and refrigerate for an hour or until easily handled.

On a well floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4" thickness. Cut with cookie cutters dipped in flour. Place 2" apart and bake on greased cookie sheets for 9-11 minutes or until edges are firm in 350 oven. Cool completely before decorating.
