Ingredients

  • 1 ½ Cups Water
  • ½ Cup Honey
  • 3 Cup Butter
  • 5 ½ t 6½ Cups Flour
  • 1 Cup Quick Cooking Oats
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 2 Pkgs Active Dry Yeast
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Tbsp Water
  • 1 Egg White
  • Oatmeal

Preparation

Step 1

Combine water, honey, and butter in small saucepan. Heat over low heat until liquids are very warm (1200 to 1300). Place 5 cups flour, oats, salt, and yeast in bowl. Attach bowl and dough hook. Turn to speed 2 and mix 15 seconds.

Gradually add warm liquids to flour mixture, about 1 minute. Add eggs and mix an additional minute. Continuing on speed 2, add remaining flour ½ cup at a time, until dough clings to hook and cleans sides of bowl. Knead on speed 2 for 2 minutes longer. Place in a greased bowl turning to grease top.

Cover, let rise in warm place, free from draft, until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour. Punch dough down and divide in half. Shape each half into a loaf and placed in a greased 8½” x 4½” x 2½” loaf pan. Cover, let rise in warm place, free from draft, until doubled in bulk, about 1 hour. Combine water and egg white. Brush tops with oatmeal.

Bake at 3750 for 40 minutes. Remove from pans immediately and cool on wire racks.
