Grandpap Rogers' Raisin Bread


This is a heavy and hearty raisin bread. We converted the recipe from coffe mugs and a bit of this and that.

  • 2 packs yeast
  • 1 C lukewarm water
  • 2 Tsp Sugar
  • 1 Qt. water-lukewarm
  • 3 Heaping Tbls. shortening Melt before measuring
  • 2 C. Sugar
  • 4 Eggs
  • 2 Tbls Cinnamon
  • 2 Tbls nutmeg
  • 1-1/2 Tbls cloves
  • 1-1/2 Tsp. Salt

Preparation time 20mins
Cooking time 60mins


Step 1

Mix yeast with lukewarm water and sugar-let stand 15 minutes

Combine reamining ingredients together. Cover and let rise until doubled in size. Punch down roll it out shape to fit 4 greased bread pans. Bake in 400 degree oven for 40 minutes.
