Ingredients

  • Strudel Dough:

  • 3

    cups flour

  • 1/2

    tsp salt

  • 1

    egg

  • 2

    tbsp melted butter

  • 3/4

    cup tepid water

  • 1

    tsp vinegar

  • Filling:

  • 1

    pt sour cream

  • 3

    lbs dry cottage cheese OR ricotta cheese

  • 1

    stick melted butter

Directions

Sift dry ingredients into bowl. Make a well and add rest of ingredients for dough. Mix and toss, then beat on board 300 times (or knead until smooth and elastic) Place into greased bowl and let set for 1 hour. Divide dough into three pieces(one for each pie plate.) Stretch dough out into a circle approximately 7 to 8 inches beyond edges of pie plate. Cut 6 wedges outwards from plate. Fill first layer with cheese and sprinkle with melted butter. Lay another wedge of dough over first filling, then spread with sour cream and sprinkle with melted butter. Lay another dough wedge over and continue doing this until all 6 wedges are used, alternating cheese and sour cream. Finish with sour cream, sprinkled with melted butter. Bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour. Eat hot. Heats very well in microwave next day. These can be frozen after they are baked. Makes 3 pies.
