Cream Cheese Coffee Braids

Ingredients

  • For the filling:
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tblsp yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 4 cups flour
  • 6 oz cream cheese
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • For the glaze;
  • 2 cups powder sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk or half and half
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Toasted sliced almonds

Preparation

Step 1

Ina saucepan, combine the sour cream, sugar, butter and salt. Cook until sugar has melted and well blended, 5-10 minutes. In a mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Add cooled sour cream mixture and eggs, mix well. Add the flour, will be soft. Cover and refrigerate over night.
Combine filling ingredients.
Next day turn out the dough to a floured surface. Knead a few times. Cut into 4 portions. Rollinto a 12x8" rectangle. Spread the filling down within 1" of the edge. Roll up jelly roll style and cut 6 x's on the top. Let rise 2 to a sheet for about an hour. Bake@ 375* for 20-25 minutes. Glaze and sprinkle with almonds.
