Ingredients

  • 8 to 10

large apples (I mixed sweet and tart)

  • ½

    cup water

  • ¼

    cup lemon juice

  • ½

    tsp cinnamon

  • dash nutmeg

  • 1

    tbsp brown sugar

  • 7-½

    tsp packed brown sugar

  • 1

tsp cinnamon (or more if you like cinnamon)

  • ¼

    tsp nutmeg

  • ½

    tsp apple pie spice

  • Optional: ¾ cup dried cranberries

Directions

1. Peel and core apples. 2. Cut apples in half slices. 3. I use a steamer/cooker; if you do not have just put in a non-stick stock pan. 4. Place apples ain pan along with water, lemon juice, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, dash of nutmeg and 1 tbsp brown sugar. If using cranberries, add now. 5. Cook till apples are tender (approx 30-45 minutes) 6. When done remove to container or bowl . 7. Add 7-1/2 tsp brown sugar (more is too tart), 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg and apple pie spice. 8. Serve cold or warm. Stays in refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
