Orange Zeppoles (Giada's italian doughnut)

Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 cup flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • ORANGE SUGAR: In a blender place 1 tbsp orange zest and 1/2 cup sugar. Process.

Step 1

In a medium saucepan melt butter, salt, sugar and water over medium heat. Boil.

Take off the heat and stir in flour. Return to the LOW heat and stir constantly until a ball forms and pulls away from sides. (About 4 minutes).

Transfer to a medium bowl. Using electric mixer on low speed add 1 egg at a time. Incorporate well. Add zest by hand gently.

Use a small scoop and plop dough into hot oil. Once golden brown about 3 minutes, transfer to paper towel. Immediately roll into Orange Sugar.

Best served warm.
