Ingredients

  • Meat sauce:
  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 2 tbsp. salad oil
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 28 oz. can diced tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • parsley
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • Cheese sauce:
  • half an onion, minced
  • 4 tbsp. margarine
  • 3 tbsp. flour
  • pinch salt
  • 3/4 cup parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 pound lasagna noodles
  • mozza cheese

Preparation

Step 1

Make meat sauce:
Brown beef in oil. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and cook over low heat for 45 minutes.

Make cheese sauce:
Cook onion slightly in margarine Mix in flour, salt and parmesan. Stir milk in gradually and cook until thickened.

Mix together ricotta cheese with egg.

Boil lasagna noodles.

In large shallow pan, spread a small amount of meat sauce on bottom of pan. Layer 1/2 the noodles, then 1/3 of remaining meat sauce and all the ricotta cheese. Layer next third of meat sauce, remaining noodles, remaining meat sauce and all the cheese sauce.

Top with grated mozza.

Bake 350 degrees for about 1 hour.

Let set for 10 minutes before cutting.
