Ingredients

  • 2 tsp veg. oil
  • 1/2 tsp minced ginger
  • 1 tbsp chopped garlic
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3/4 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 cup veg oil
  • 1 lb flank steak
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 large green onions

Step 1

Heat 2 tsp oil over medium-low heat. Add ginger and garlic and then soy sauce and water. Dissolve brown sugar in sauce. Raise the heat to medium and boil for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat.

Slice steak against the grain into 1/4 in slices. Dib the steak into the cornstarch to apply a coating to each side. Let sit for about 10 minutes to allow the cornstartch to stick. Heat one cup of oil in a skillet until hot but not smoking. Add beef and saute for two minutes until it begins to darken around edges. Remove meat to papter towels and pour the oil out of skillet. Return meat to skillet and simmer for one minute. Add sauce and cook for one minute. Add green onions. Cook for one minute and remove beef and onions.
