Easy Creamy Tomato Soup

It's easy to lighten this recipe by substituting Half & Half, milk, or 1% milk for the heavy cream. Add finely chopped onions or a pinch of cayenne for a bit more flavor, but this is yummy as is, and as easy to put together as is making a sandwich.

Ingredients
- 2 (28-ounce) cans crushed tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil (or 1 teaspoon dried basil)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups (1 pint) heavy cream

Preparation
Step 1
In a large soup pot, combine tomatoes, sugar, basil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper; bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
Reduce heat to low and SLOWLY stir in the cream. Simmer 4 to 5 minutes, or until heated through; do not allow to boil.
