Ingredients
- 1 Head of Cabbage
- 1/4 LB Salt Pork
- 1 1/2 LBS Ground Beef
- 1/2 LB Ground Pork
- 1 - 32oz (large) can tomato juice 32oz
- 1 - 15oz can tomato sauce
- 1 - 15oz can diced tomatos
- 1/2 PKG Rice (16oz box of long grain white rice)
- 2 Large onions (Chopped)
- 1 TSP Salt
- 1/2 TSP pepper
- SAUCE
- 1/4 remaining salt pork and onion mixture
- 1 can tomato sauce and diced tomatoes
- Cook for five minutes then add tomato juice
- Cook for another five minutes.
Preparation
Step 1
PREHEAT OVEN to 375
1. Cook Rice according to PKG directions (First rinse off starch)
2. Chop salt pork fine and cook until brown. Add chopped onions and cook until onions are brown.
3. Par boil cabbage and cook until tender - enough to roll. Split stem in half for easier rolling.
4. While cabbage is cooking prepare meat mixture as follows:
Mix pork and beef, add salt and pepper. Add 3/4 salt pork and onion mixture. Add rice and mix. (salt and pepper to suit taste)
5. Place meat mixture at base of cabbage leaf and begin to roll. Tucking in side at first roll and then continue to roll. Continue with rest of cabbage leafs.
6. Line bottom cooking pan with leftover cabbage bits.
7. Add roll cabbage and pour sauce mixture of rolled cabbage.
Cook for 1 hour.
1/2 hour to reheat
