Spiced Bread with Maple Butter

Ingredients

  • Butter:
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 t. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 t. baking powder
  • 1/2 t. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 t. ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 t. ground allspice
  • 1/4 t. salt
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 T. maple syrup
  • 1/2 t. ground cinnamon

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in vanilla. Combine the flours, baking powder, spices and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Fold in walnuts.

Transfer to a greased 8" x 4" loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes before removing from pan to a wire rack.

Beat butter ingredients until blended; serve with bread.
