Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup pan drippings (bacon drippings or sausage drippings) or just plain shortening if no drippings
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups milk or heavy cream, room temperature
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

Step 1

In medium fry pan over medium-high heat, combine drippings or shortening and flour; brown flour, stirring constantly.

Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly, cook til gravy is smooth and thickness you want, if you want it thinner, add more milk. Season with salt and pepper.

I was raised on gravy and biscuits but we were poor and used water instead of milk, using water is still one of my favorite gravies.
