Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 Tbsp water
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1-1/4 cups finely chopped nuts
  • jam

Preparation

Step 1

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
2. Blend with fork, the baking powder and flour.
3. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffly.
4. Add water, vanilla, and egg yolk.
5. Add flour, and mix well.
6. Form dough into balls about the size of walnut.
7. Roll in slightly beaten egg white, then in nuts.
8. Place on lightly greased baking sheet.
9. Bake 5 minutes. Remove from oven and press thumbprint in each ball.
10. Return to oven and bake 8 to 10 minutes.
11. Remove to cooling trays.
12. When completely cooled, fill with your favourite jam or jelly.
