Refried Beans (Crockpot)

We got this recipe from BAM and tried it with black beans - yum!

Ingredients
- 1 onion, peeled & halved
- 3 c. dry pinto beans
- 1/2 fresh jalapeno (seeded & chopped)
- 2 Tbsp minced garlic
- 5 tsp salt (BAM uses less)
- 1 3/4 tsp black pepper
- 1/8 tsp ground cumin (BAM uses a little more)
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 9 cups water
Preparation
Step 1
Place all ingredient in crock-pot, then add water & stir to combine. Add more water if needed as beans cook. Note: if more than 1 cup evaporates during cooking, then temp is too high.
Cook on high for 8 hours.
Once beans have cooked, drain them, reserving liquid. Mash the beans and add reserved liquid fro desired consistency.
