Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked elbow macaroni (about 6 ounces)
  • 1/2 cup margarine or butter
  • 1/2 small onion, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cup milk
  • 8 ounces sharp american or Swiss cheese.

Preparation

Step 1

Cook macaroni as directed on package

Cook and stir margarine, onion, salt and pepper over medium heat until onion is tender.

Stir in flour

Cook over low hear, stirring constantly, until mixture is smooth and bubbly; remove from heat

Stir in milk.

Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute.

Remove from heat stir in cheese until melted

Add macaroni.
