Ingredients

  • 1 pkg. [1/4 oz] active dry yeast. [I used the instant yeast and followed its directions]
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening [I used margarine]
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 - 4 1/2 cup flour
  • 6 tablespoon melted butter

Preparation

Step 1

In a large bowl dissolve yeast in warm water.
Add sugar, shortening, egg, salt, and 1 cup flour

Beat until smooth. Stir in flour to make soft dough.

Knead 6-8 minutes. [If the dough is heavy I add a little more warm water till it feels lighter. When it is lighter it will rise better.]

Grease and cover to let rise.

Shape into 1 1/2 inch balls. Dip in melted butter.
Arrange in greased 9 inch fluted tube pan.

Cover. Let rise.

Bake 350 degrees for 30 - 35 minutes.
Cool 5 minutes. Turn unto serving plate.
Serve warm.
