Boston Brown Bread

I love this! My favorite from childhood. This bread tastes lightly sweet, moist & delicious especially topped with cream cheese. Despite the excellent flavor, surprise it is healthy & high fiber whole grain. How often do you get healthy & delicious!

Ingredients
- 1/2 cups cornmeals
- 1/2 cup whole wheat flour (aka graham flour aka whole wheat pastry flour)
- 1/2 cup rye flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/3 cup molasses
- 2 Tb brown sugar
- 1 Tb oil
- 3 Tb walnuts3 Tbs raisins
Preparation
Step 1
In a large bowl combine dry ingredients with a whisk.
In a smaller bowl whisk together wet ingredients.
Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.
Fold in nuts & raisins.
Put batter into greased canning jars and cover jars with foil secure w/ rubber bands if desired.put jars on a rack in a deep pot with 2-5 inches of water. Cover pot & bring water to a gentle boil. Continue the gentle boil in the covered pot for45-50 min until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Cool & slide out of jars to finish cooling.
