- 60 mins
Ingredients
- 1/2 lb. butter
- 2 c. light corn syrup
- 2 c. sugar
- 2 c. (15 oz. ea) sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 c. sifted flour
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
Step 1
In a heavy saucepan, melt butter. Add corn syrup and sugar, boil for 5 minutes over medium head, stirring constantly. Add 1 ½ cans sweetened condensed milk and keep stirring all the time. Mix flour with remaining milk, then add to corn syrup/sugar mix. Boil until mix darkens and reaches 240º or medium ball stage. Stir constantly or mix will stick and burn. Add vanilla and pour into 9x13” pan and allow to cool. Cut into 1” or smaller squares with a sharp knife. Wrap with wax paper. Makes about 5 dozen 1” pieces.
To use for making chocolate turtles, cut caramels into smaller pieces and add ½ pecan to each piece and then dip into chocolate. When I have used for Turtles, I just spoon Carmel over pecans or walnuts on buttered surface or marble slab.
