Salisbury Steak with Mushrooms

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 onion, finely chopped
  • crackers or bread crumbs (about 1/2 cup)
  • Salt and pepper
  • 3 T butter
  • 8 oz mushrooms
  • 2 T worcestershire sauce
  • 3 T flour
  • Fresh chopped parsley (optional)
  • Butter egg noodles (for serving)

Preparation

Step 1

Gently mix the beef, egg, onion, crumbs, salt and pepper in a bowl....divide into 4-5 parts and shape into patties about 1/2 inch thick...Brown in pan with 1 T butter about 4 minutes per side and transfer to plate

Add 1 T butter to skillet and cook mushrooms about 2 minutes until browned. Add worcestshire sauce and salt and pepper to taste, scraping up any browned bits. Sprinkle in the flour and stir, then stir in the 2 1/2 cups of hot water and simmer until the sauce begins to thicken, about 2 minutes. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and parsley. Serve with noodles, if desired.
