Ingredients
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup apple sauce
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon*
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 4 cups chopped, peeled apples
- 1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- Pinch salt
Preparation
Step 1
1. In a mixing bowl, beat eggs until foamy; gradually add sugars. Blend in oil, apple sauce and vanilla. Combine flour, salt, cinnamon and baking soda; add to egg mixture. Stir in apples and pecans. Pour into a greased 10" tube pan; bake at 350F for 1 hour and 15 mins or until the cake tests done. Cool in pan on a wire rack for 10 mins.
2. Meanwhile, to make topping, combine all ingredients in a saucepan; boil 3 mins, stirring constantly.
3. Remove cake to a serving platter. Slowly pour over warm cake (some topping will run down onto the serving plate.)
