Coffee Cake

This is a very old recipe of my Mother's.

Ingredients

• 2 cups sugar
• 2 cups flour
• 1/2 cup shortning
• 1 cup sour milk
• 1/2 tsp baking soda
• 2 eggs
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• 1 tsp clove
• 1 tsp ginger
• 1 tsp vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

Mix cinnamon, clove, ginger. Melt shortning. Mix sugar, flour and melted shortning until crumbly. Take out a cupful to use for topping later. Beat eggs then add to the mixture. Put baking soda in the sour milk. Add to mixture. Add spices and vanilla.
Pour batter into a greased square pan. Sprinkle cupful of topping on top. Bake at 350 degrees until toothpick comes out clean about 20 minutes.
