Ingredients

  • 2 1/3 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoonginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt

Preparation

Step 1

1. Heat oven to 325.
2. Grease and flour a 9x9 pan.
3.Beat all ingredients in a large bowl on low speed,
scraping bowl constantly, 30 seconds.
4. Beat on medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally, 3
minutes.
5. Pour into pan.
6. Bake till wooden toothpick inserted in center comes
out clean, about 50 minutes.

Serve with whipped cream
