Ingredients
- 4 large peppers
- 5 c. boiling water
- 1.25 lbs. ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1 t. salt
- 1/2 garlic powder
- 3/4 cups cooked rice
- 15 oz. can tomato sauce, separated.
- 1 t. brown sugar
Preparation
Step 1
Cook rice.
Remove top, seeds and membranes from peppers.
Cook in boiling water 5-8 minutes. Drain.
Brown beef with onion until onion is tender. Drain fat.
Stir in salt, garlic powder, rice and 1 cup tomato sauce.
If mixture is too dry add a tablespoon or two of water.
Heat through.
Stuff each pepper with approximately 1/2 cup of mixture.
Place peppers in an ungreased, glass baking dish.
Mix remaining tomato sauce with a tablespoon of water and brown sugar.
Pour over and around peppers.
Cover and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
Uncover and bake additional 15 minutes.
