Ingredients
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp pure maple sugar
- 2 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 1/4 tsp ancho chile powder
- 1/4 tsp ground cumin
- 1 garlic clove, peeled and smashed
- 4 (6-ounce) salmon fillets or steaks, skin removed is using fillet

Step 1
1. Preheat a medium-hot grill or preheat the oven to 400 degrees
2. If using the oven, line a baking sheet with aluminum foil
3. In a small saucepan, combine all the ingredients except the salmon and cook over medium-low heat for 5 minutes. Set aside to cool slightly (this can be done a few days ahead and refrigerated)
4. Brush the top of the salmon with the BBQ sauce and place on the grill or in the oven and cook until the desired done-ness, about 5 minutes for medium rare. 7 to 10 minutes for medium. Turn the fish midway through cooking.
