Ingredients

• 1/2 cup Crisco
• 1 1//2 cups sugar
• 2 eggs
• 2 cups flour
• 1 tbsp. cocoa
• 1/2 tsp. salt
• 1 tsp. vanilla
• 1 cup buttermilk
• 2 oz. red food coloring
• 1 tsp. soda
• 1 tbsp. vinegar

Preparation

Step 1

Cream shortening & sugar Add eggs. Sift flour, cocoa, and salt. Add this mixture alternately with buttermilk and red food coloring. Add vanilla. Beat well. Fold in baking soda which has been dissolved in tbsp. vinegar. Bake in 2 layers at 350 for 30-35 min.
