Ingredients

  • 1 4 oz pkg German chocolate
  • 1/2 c boiling water
  • 1 c margarine softened
  • 2 c sugar
  • 4 eggyolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/2 c flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 c buttermilk
  • 4 eggwhites, stiffly beaten

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350*.

Grease and flour 3 - 9 inch round pans.

Melt chocolate in water, cool. Cream margarine and sugar until fluffy. Add egg yolks, one at a time, beating after each one. Add vanilla and chocolate mixture, mix well. Sift flour, baking soda and salt. Add dry ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, beating until smooth after each addition. Fold in egg whites. Pour into prepared pans. Bake for 40 minutes. Cool. Top with Coconut Frosting.
