Breads: Whole Wheat Bread

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 package yeast
  • 2 2/3 cup heated milk
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 T salt
  • 2-3 T butter
  • 7 cups whole wheat flour

Preparation

Step 1

Heat milk and butter until butter melts.
Stir sugar into warm water and sprinkle yeast over it.
Stir until dissolved.
In a large mixing bowl, combine milk, butter, salt and molasses.
When lukewarm, add yeast mixture.
Stir in flour and mix well.
A stiff dough will form. Use more flour if needed.
Furn out on floured board and knead until smooth and elastic
Place in clean bowl, cover with damp cloth, and let rise an hour or more.
Turn out and knead again, then shape into 2 loaves and place in a greased loaf pan.
Cover with damp cloth and let rise an hour or more until smooth and out of pan.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Put in bread and reduce heat to 350 degrees to bake.
