Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 cup milk
- 4 cups flour
- 4 t baking powder
- 1 t grated mace
- 1/2 t salt
- 1/2 cup melted shortening
- 2 egg whites
Preparation
Step 1
Mix sugar into yolks. Beat well and add milk. Into flour, put baking powder, mace and salt. Sift and stir slowly into mixture. Add shortening and stir in well-beaten egg whites. With a floured rolling pin, roll very lightly to 1/4 inch thick. For drop doughnuts, cut into irregular squares with a knife or for rings, use regular doughnut cutter.
Fry with oil in deep fat fryer. Take out when light brown, drain and just before serving, roll in 4X sugar.
