Ingredients
- 1 pound loaf of fresh white bread
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 1 cup superfine sugar
- 1 Tablespoon ground cinnamon
Preparation
Step 1
Cut slices of bread diagonally. Saute half of slices slowly, 2 or 3 at at time, adding butter gradually until each piece is golden-brown on each side, but not overly dark. Remove slices from skillet and drop into a clean, unglazed brown paper bag containing a mixture of cinnamon and sugar. SWhake gently and serve warm. Makes 24-32 pieces.
To pick up less sugar, put toast on a paper towel to dry for a minute after browning in butter.

NOTE:
For variety, combine sugar and cinnamon and add a little water to make a paste. Dip bread into paste and saute in butter until browned. The sugar and butter caranmelize and give the toast a delicious crisp crust. Serve hot.
