- 1/2 cup Toor Dal
- 1/2 cup Moong Dal
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 tsp ginger grated
- 1 tsp garlic minced
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp mustard powder
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp cumin
- a few curry leaves
- 2-3 red chilies
- 2 tbsp ghee
- Coriander, finely chopped for garnish
Soak dal for 1 hour in lukewarm water.
In a pressure cooker, cook dal in 2 cups of water with a little salt & turmeric.
In a heavy bottomed deep pan, melt a tablespoon of ghee & add curry leaves, onion, ginger, garlic mixture. Saute until the onions are clear.
Add tomato pieces, red chili, cumin & mustard powder.
Cook till the mixture emulsifies and the oil is absorbed.
Add the cooked dal and simmer on medium flame.
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice.
