Preparation

Step 1

Grease a 15x10x1 inch jelly roll pan. Line the pan with waxed paper for easy removal of the cake.

Cream well, 1 cup butter or marg., brown sugar, sugar, vanilla and salt. Add eggs, one at a time, beating very well after each one.

Gradually add flour and mix until well blended. Set aside 1 Tablespoon of the 1 cup chocolate chips for garnish and stir in the rest.

Pour into prepared pan being careful to spread evenly over entire pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Be careful not to over bake. Cool completely.

Loosen cake and turn out onto a lightly floured cloth; remove waxed paper. Cut cake crosswise into 4 (3 3/4 inch) pieces.

For Frosting:
Melt 1 cup choc. chips in small pan over hot water on stove OR put in microwave for 1-2 minutes on high power, stirring once. Cream butter or marg. and powdered sugar. Add the melted chocolate and vanilla. Beat until smooth.

To Assemble Cake:
Put one piece of cake top side down on the serving dish. Frost, using about 3 heaping tablespoons of frosting(leave sides for later). Top with another piece of cake, top side up this time, to help make cake more even. Use 3 tablespoons frosting on this layer and top with the 3rd layer, putting it bottom side up. Frost it using 3 tablespoons frosting. Put on the 4th layer top side up. Use the remaining frosting to frost sides and top of cake. Sprinkle reserved choc chips on the top.

When using the cake for a bake sale, be sure to cut off one end to reveal the attractive inside! or cut in half and sell both halves separately
