  • 1 pkg (4oz) german sweet chocolate
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 2 1/4 cups sifted all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 egg whites, stiff
  • choco cream cheese frosting
  • 1 pkg(4oz) german sweet chocolate
  • 1 1/2 tbsp water
  • 1 pkg(3oz) cream cheese, soft
  • 1 cup unsifted confectionary sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Step 1

melt chocolate in boiling water, cool; sift flour, soda, and salt. cream butter and sugar well. add egg yolks, one at a time, beating after each. blend in vanilla and melted chocolate. add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating after each addition. fold in beaten egg whites. pour in 3-9 inch layer pans, lined on bottom with paper. 350 30-35 minutes. cool 15 minutes

cream cheese frosting; heat chocolate with water-stirring; remove-cool; add cream cheese, beat add sugar, salt, vanilla. let stand few minutes, then spread.
