Burnt-Orange Cream Cheese Frosting 1 Picture

Ingredients

  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 T water
  • 3/4 t. light corn syrup
  • 6 T orange juice
  • grated zest of 1 orange
  • 1/4 c. softened cream cheese
  • 1 1/3 c. powdered sugar
  • 1/2 t. vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

In a small, heavy saucepan (NOT NONSTICK), bring the water, sugar and corn syrup together over medium hear. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Boil until the syrup turns a deep amber color. Immediately pour in the orange juice and zest, taking care not to get burned. Stir until caramel dissolves. Continue to boil until thick and syrupy, and reduced to about 1/4 c. Pour syrup into a greased glass measuring cup. Let syrup cool until lukewarm but still pourable.

In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, combine the cream cheese, vanilla, and pwwdered sugar, mixing until well-blemded. Add 3 T of the orange syrup, 1 T at a time, mixing until well-blended. Spread on warm cinnamon rolls.
